1978 Topps Football NMMT to MT NEAR COMPLETE SET (489/528) w/ Walter Payton

For sale is a nearly complete 1978 Topps Football card set with 489 of 528 cards.We thumbed through these cards and they are pretty much all in NMMT condition to MT with sharp corners, clean edges and clean surfaces. Many of these cards, especially the stars, are probably worth sending off to be graded, but we'll let the next owner decide if they wish to do that. Either way, we trust the grading potential of this near complete set is pretty high.We used the online price guide on PSA's website to determine which cards were stars. The site included the values for PSA10 cards, as well as 9s and 8s and also included graded population reports for each card in the set. We removed all of the cards that were not commons and included them in the pictures above so you can get a good idea as to the condition of the star cards. The commons are all in similar condition as well.Cards 1-490, less #315, are included. This set comes in a Topps hockey vending box that originally held 500 cards. It has been stored in the box in a closet for decades. We do not know what we did with cards 491 to 528, but if/when we locate them, we will modify this listing accordingly.Unfortunately, card #315 is of course the Tony Dorsett rookie. The only missing star cards are Dan Fouts (#499), Franco Harris (#500), Bears TL (Payton) #504 and Cowboys TL (Dorsett) #507. Outside of those four star cards and the Dorsett rookie, all other non-common/star cards are included, including Walter Payton.As you can see, the cards have a slight curvature to them typical of cards stored in these thin cardboard vending boxes for decades. The curvature can easily be removed from the cards by storing them in a more rigid 660 count or 800 count storage box with sponges/spacers to tightly fill in the empty space or by putting the set in 9 pocket pages for awhile. The last two cards, #489 and #490 have a slight bend the other direction near the bottoms as well, as shown in one of the pictures above, but this can also be removed and both cards are commons. This partial set will come in the vending box we've had it in for decades and will weigh pounds when packed for shipping. Obviously, we'll put the vending box in a larger box.
