Description: This beautiful Native American seed pot with stick is a true one-of-a kind work of art. The pot made in 2005 is hand crafted. It measures 3 1/2" tall and is 5 1/2" wide. The mouth is 2 1/4" in diameter. Made of white clay, the pot is painted a brown/grey color on the outside. Animal etchings are on both sides and appear to be a badger and claw. The white of the natural clay shows through with the etchings. The pot has been burnished with stone to give it a smooth and semi-glossy finish. The inside of the pot is the natural white clay. The pot has two loops on the side that a wood sorting/stirring stick fits into, a rare feature. The initials, "TD" Anes and '05 are etched onto the bottom indicating the artist and the year. After extensive research I am unable to identify the artist and tribe with absolute certainty. The design is most like Navajo or Ute. I believe the initials may belong to Tony Dallas, a pottery artist who signs his pieces, TD and often includes a badger claw in his art to honor his clan origin. Although most famous for his Kachina clowns, he also made etched pottery pieces. Again, I am not positive about my findings and if anyone recognizes the artist and/or tribe, I would love to hear from you. The provenance of the pot is not available, but it is certain to be a valuable addition to any collection. Whether you are a collector of Native American art or simply appreciate the unique beauty of this piece, this pot is an exquisite addition to your home decor. The pot is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or flea bites.
