John Lennon purchased this Epiphone Casino in 1966 and used it as his main instrument during the remainder of his time with The Beatles. The pickguard was removed and the body sanded to bare wood whilst recording The White Album in 1968. Paul was the first Beatle to purchase an Epiphone Casino ES-230TD and has referred to it as his favourite electric. He used it extensively in the studio as a member of The Beatles, particularly on recordings of Ticket To Ride, Taxman and Drive My Car and through his solo career. In 1959 John’s Aunt Mimi helped him purchase his Hofner Club 40 when she paid the £17 deposit the day before The Quarry Men’s first Casbah performance and it proved tough enough to survive as John’s main instrument whilst The Silver Beatles made their way to Hamburg. Eric Clapton gifted George his cherry red 1957 Les Paul Standard he named Lucy and she was used almost exclusively through the final studio sessions for The White Album and the Get Back/Let It Be recordings in January 1969, then extensively on recordings for the Abbey Road album.
